Meet The Makers:

GALLOWAY LODGE

Operating from the historic town of Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, Galloway Lodge has championed the traditional craft of preserve making since 1971. Founded by Nigel Hesketh over fifty years ago, this fiercely independent enterprise is now run by the second generation of the family, Ruaridh and Naomi Hesketh. While many modern manufacturers choose to buy in bulk preserves and simply rebrand them, the team in South West Scotland remains absolutely committed to making everything in their own kitchen.

PATIENCE AND PROVENANCE

The foundation of Galloway Lodge relies on a remarkably simple ethos: good preserves require exceptional ingredients and a great deal of patience. The family strictly refuses to cut corners, speed up production, or cheapen their recipes for mass-market appeal. If a traditional cooking method takes longer to execute properly, they take the time to do it properly.

By cooking their jams, chutneys, and marmalades in genuine small batches, the team ensures total control over the flavour profile and texture of every jar. This grounded, uncompromising approach allows the natural character of the fruit to speak for itself. It is a slow, methodical craft that has kept their loyal customers returning for over five decades, proving that quality will always outlast convenience.

INSIDE OUR SCOTTISH HAMPERS

We are exceptionally proud to feature Galloway Lodge within our curated collections. We selected them for their absolute mastery of traditional Scottish preserve making and their unwavering dedication to their family heritage.

POACHER'S PICKLE

Recognised with a Great Taste Award, this is Galloway Lodge's most acclaimed chutney. It begins with a vibrant tomato and apple base, gently enhanced with plump raisins, malt vinegar, and carefully selected spices. Simmered slowly until luxuriously thick, it provides a complex balance of sweet richness and tangy zest. It serves as a sublime, mellow accompaniment to artisan cheese boards, roasted meats, or thick-cut sandwiches.

FINE CUT ORANGE MARMALADE

This exquisite marmalade brilliantly refines a classic breakfast provision. Handcrafted using high-quality bitter orange pulp, it offers a silky, refined texture rather than a heavy, coarse peel. Every spoonful bursts with a bright, harmonious interplay of zesty freshness and balanced sweetness. It is a delightfully sophisticated spread for morning toast, warm buttered scones, or freshly baked croissants.

GALLOWAY MUSTARD WITH HONEY

This highly versatile condiment is a brilliant addition to any Scottish curation. It blends tangy whole mustard seeds with the natural sweetness of honey and a warming hint of spice. Crafted in small batches, it delivers an exceptional balance of sharp and sweet notes that pairs flawlessly with roasted meats or a robust farmhouse cheddar.
