Feragaia

The name Feragaia translates gracefully from Latin and Greek to mean "wild earth", a concept that sits at the very heart of the founders' philosophy. Bill Garnock, raised on a family farm in the nearby East Neuk, was adamant that this new spirit must reflect the rugged, untamed beauty of the Scottish landscape.

Rather than relying on industrial shortcuts or attempting to mimic existing alcohol categories, Jamie and Bill worked closely with local crofters and farmers. They carefully select fourteen distinct botanicals sourced directly from the land and sea. Sugar kelp harvested from the coastal waters provides a grounding mineral depth, while native blackcurrant leaf, lemon verbena, and chamomile grown specifically for the distillery add bright, earthy top notes.

The process at the Fife distillery brilliantly marries age-old traditional distillation techniques with modern innovation. To ensure complete clarity of flavour, the team separates their ingredients into two distinct categories. Delicate botanicals undergo a careful maceration process to slowly extract their essential oils. Meanwhile, the tougher, more robust elements, including bay leaf, seaweed, and bitter orange peel, are passed through traditional distillation.

These resulting distillates are then expertly cut together, blended with pure, crisp Scottish water, and gently filtered before bottling. Crucially, the distillery strictly avoids using alcohol at any stage of production. This ensures a clean, highly sophisticated liquid that stands entirely on its own merit. As a certified B Corp, the enterprise also operates a waste-free, environmentally conscious manufacturing process, ensuring their connection to the wild earth is truly sustainable.
